‘Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.’ – Marilyn Monroe, quoted by Marie Claire magazine.
Shoes may not make the woman, but having a stylish, polished pair can provide a self-estee
m boost that can help her get on her feet.
#GivingShoesDay takes place Tuesday (Dec. 1), sponsored by the national nonprofit called Dressed for Success.
Columbia College Chicago’s Fashion Association is promoting the campaign on social media. Donations are accepted at 70 E. Lake, 9th floor.
Dressed for Success is a national charity which prepares disadvantaged women for employment, including job searching, interview preparation and personal styling to boost women’s confidence once they land a job interview.
“We always have enough professional clothing for women but finding shoes is another thing,” said Kimberly King, the Developmental Manager for Dressed for Success’s Chicago Chapter.
This charitable event has been held annually for a few years now.
The ALDO shoe chain is donating $250 in gift certificates to the top 10 shoe donors nationwide, giving another incentive for women who love shoes to practice “out with the old, in with the new.”
On Wednesday Dec. 2, Dressed for Success will partner with Morgan Stanley, who will present them with over 300 coats, as part of a winter coat drive for Dress for Success. Much like work appropriate shoes, professional coats are scarce as well. Outerwear can also be donated to 70 E. Lake, 9th floor.
In addition, when you purchase a gift set from the L’Occitane en Provence holiday collection, $10 from every sale will be donated back to Dress for Success, up to $120,000.
