Trump UIC rally shut down by protesters

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump had to cancel his March 11 Chicago campaign stop at the University of IllinoisChicago Pavilion after hundreds of protesters disrupted the event. The anti-Trump protesters included a diverse group, with Hispanics, whites and African-Americans, Muslims and pro-Palestinians taking over the event. Black Lives Matters activists were among the protesters as well.The atmosphere around the arena was tense before people were allowed to the Pavilion. Attendees were in line for hours; some there since 10 a.m. that Friday morning. The event was scheduled to start at 6 p.m. before it was canceled at 6:30 p.m.

A Trump spokesperson said they had to cancel the event for “security and safety concerns.”
